The Spiritual Identity of Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda

The Spiritual Identity of Ramakrishna and Swami
Vivekananda

AVATARA ADI DA: It is important that My devotees
have a more profound understanding about the relationship between My
Incarnation and Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna. People tend to
think about these things in very simplistic terms. For instance, when
they think of Swami Vivekananda’s association with the deeper
personality of My Incarnation, they think of the historical
Swami Vivekananda whose photos exist in books. Of course, there is
something in the record of His life that is reflected in His
photographs and that bears upon My present Manifestation, but, as I
have indicated, not just Swami Vivekananda the historical person but
the One Who Appeared as Swami Vivekananda is fundamental to
the construct of the deeper personality of My Appearance here.

Therefore, I have Instructed My devotees to look
at Ramakrishna’s description of Swami Vivekananda to attain a greater
understanding of the Vehicle that has become the deeper personality
of My Manifestation. Ramakrishna stated that Swami Vivekananda would
Realize Who He, Swami Vivekananda, was at the end of His life. Just
so, Swami Vivekananda as Realizer should be associated with My
Appearance. The Transformation that occurred after His passing must
be understood in order to appreciate how He was Awakened to His
profound Nature.

I have made these distinctions before, but My
devotees still tend to think of Swami Vivekananda the historical
person, rather than the One Who was Appearing as Swami Vivekananda.
It is That One Who is part of the construct of the deeper personality
of My Manifestation.

In The Basket of Tolerance, I Write that Swami
Vivekananda and Ramakrishna “are One, at the Heart. And I Am the One
They have Realized There.” I have Spoken about the greater
significance of this that I am not merely a reincarnate personality
but the One Who Is, Manifesting through a personality that has
gross and deeper forms. There are many Names for That One and That
Reality. In The Dawn Horse Testament, I use some of the traditional
language of Shiva-Shakti. Who I Am Ultimately Is That, and the One I
describe as “She” is an Aspect of Me.

There is another dimension of this
“Consideration”, however, that I have not yet Spoken about but have
only suggested in the quotation from The Basket of Tolerance, “He
[Vivekananda] and Ramakrishna are One, at the Heart. And I Am
the One They have Realized There.” At the end of His life,
Ramakrishna transferred His Shakti, or Force of Being, to Swami
Vivekananda, in a formal act of Spiritual Transmission. From then,
Ramakrishna was just a “fakir”. He had Emptied Himself, in some
sense. Thus, Swami Vivekananda’s Deeper Personality had been
transformed by the One Manifesting as Ramakrishna. Swami Vivekananda
must be understood to be the Vehicle of the One Who was Incarnating
as Ramakrishna. From the time of that Act of Spiritual Transmission,
Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna were Spiritually One. Thereafter,
Ramakrishna’s own Force and Presence were Transmitted through Swami
Vivekananda and, therefore, Shown through Swami Vivekananda’s Sign.

Vivekananda was the masculine side of this “One”.
He did a certain kind of Work that Ramakrishna could not do. The
significance of this Mystery is Communicated in the line I have
Spoken in The Basket of Tolerance “He [Vivekananda] and
Ramakrishna are One, at the Heart. And I Am the One They have
Realized There.” Rightly understood, the deeper personality
Manifesting through My Form is also the One Who was Ramakrishna.

How these things work is not commonly understood.
Therefore, I have not been inclined to speak about it. The historical
person of Swami Vivekananda died. The One Appearing as the historical
person of Swami Vivekananda did not. That One Combined with a gross
form and circumstance.

The Transmission whereby Swami Vivekananda and
Ramakrishna became One is likewise not understood, because the
Spiritual Reality is not understood. It is not that I am made up of
multiple personalities! This Body is the Force Of
Divine Being. It is the Vehicle of Divine
Manifestation, the Vehicle Transparent to the Divine Reality. Thus,
the Vehicle, being Transparent to Me, has become the Means for My
Manifestation.

To have some sense of what this Vehicle is like,
it is necessary to understand not just Swami Vivekananda but
Ramakrishna also. Some of you have suggested that perhaps Ramakrishna
reincarnated as Swami Muktananda, but this idea should not be
suggested. Swami Muktananda did not suggest it, and I do not suggest
it, for this reason. What must be understood about Swami Vivekananda
and Ramakrishna is that Ramakrishna passed on His Teaching work to
Swami Vivekananda. But it must be understood in Spiritual
terms.

Ramakrishna said that in a Spiritual event, He had
emptied Himself, and that He was now a mere “fakir”. From that point,
Swami Vivekananda was the Vehicle of Ramakrishna’s Spiritual Work.
