Two and a half thousand years ago, Plato expressed a vision of reality that has gripped the human imagination ever since. In The Republic,* he describes a dark cave or den, where prisoners are chained up facing a wall. There is a fire behind and above them and a raised walkway with figures moving back and forth, none of which the prisoners can see, because they are chained in such a manner that they cannot turn their heads. All they are able to perceive on the wall are the flickering shadows of the figures behind them, cast by the light of the fire. They assume these shadows to be real, knowing nothing of whence they come. And so these prisoners pass their time analyzing and predicting the shapes of the shadows and competing to excel in these efforts. \par
What if some of the prisoners were to be released and ascend out of the cave? Would not their eyes be completely dazzled at first, but, then, becoming accustomed to the light, would they not be amazed to recognize the sun, the source-light of the shadows in the cave, and realize the illusory nature of those shadows, which they had earlier believed to be all that exists? \par
Plato\rquote s meaning is that human beings are like prisoners confined to a domain of shadows, cut off from the real truth of things, and full of self-importance and trivial pursuits in the midst of their ignorance. The \ldblquote cave\rdblquote is the body, the mind, and the world\emdash and the \ldblquote sun\rdblquote is the ultimate domain of Truth. \par
This ancient allegory poses the greatest human question, and one for which Plato had no ultimate answer: In the face of the transience of happiness, the mystery of death, the elusiveness of truth, what is Reality, and how is Reality to be known directly, permanently, and beyond all doubt? How do the prisoners get out of the cave\emdash the ever-replicating fractal of conditions that fill the waking and dreaming states? Even sleep, or a formless meditative state, is only a temporary moment of not-noticing, before \ldblquote cave-life\rdblquote reasserts itself. \par
There is no way out of the cave by merely human means. Only a unique Intervention on the part of That Which is Prior to the cave\emdash the Divine Source-Condition, Reality Itself, Ultimate Truth\emdash has the power to wake up the prisoners and unlock their chains. Human history is full of such intuitions, but even while religions speak of incarnations and avatars and great salvatory interventions from beyond the human realm, there remains a sense that the story is not yet complete. Some greater, all-completing Coming is expected. Each tradition has its own prophetic vision of the Expected One, and presumes that this One will coincide with its own cultural understanding\emdash in Judaism, the Messiah; in Christianity, the Second Coming; in Islam, the Mahdi; in Zoroastrianism, the Saoshyant; in Hinduism, the Kalki Avatar; in Buddhism, Maitreya Buddha; and so on. The clothing of this fundamental human intuition in the \ldblquote costume\rdblquote of the various traditions has been inevitable, a result of the isolation of the tribes of humankind wandering in groups all over the Earth, building altars to the Unknown God or Reality, invoked by many names. \par
But that time is long gone. Humankind is now intermingled, face to face, mastering the secrets of the Earth-world and of space. There is a new altar erected\emdash to science and the power of analytical knowledge, posing a new dilemma for humankind. On the one hand, the numinous is debunked, while, on the other hand, there is a fierce and literalist clinging to past myths and holy books. A robotic despair has crept over the human family. If ever there was a time for an all-unifying, all-completing Intervention\emdash it is now. \par
What could such an Intervention possibly look like in this globalized present time? Such a One would surely confound all the \ldblquote signposts\rdblquote in the psyche and liberate the \ldblquote Divine\rdblquote from ownership by this or that tradition. The anciently awaited Expected One would have to be universally recognizable, transcending all partial views, self-evidently authentic. \par
The Ineffable has Happened. The deepest longings of the human heart are answered and vindicated. The Ruchira Avatar, Adi Da Samraj, is that Breakthrough Presence, Reality Itself Shining into the \ldblquote cave\rdblquote\emdash as He once said, \ldblquote like Sunlight in the morning\rdblquote . And this book is His Supreme Statement that \ldblquote morning\rdblquote has come. The Boundless Self-Confession brings to culmination a lifetime of Revelation writings by the Ruchira Avatar about the meaning and purpose of His Appearance, revealing profundities that are ultimately unfathomable. But the heart knows. The heart, as His Divine Presence says, \ldblquote is where everyone comes to Me\rdblquote .\par
From the moment of His human birth (on Long Island, New York, in 1939), the Ruchira Avatar was Aware in the pure enjoyment of Self-Radiant Being, eternally Blissful and Effulgent. When words first emerged in His infant awareness, He described His experience in a single word\emdash the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . To Him, the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote was the only Reality, however others might fail to notice it. \par
At the age of around two years, the Ruchira Avatar spontaneously Submitted to seeing and relating in the common way, as though separate objects and others actually exist. This Submission arose in the form of a painful Love Impulse, triggered by a simple incident that He clearly recalls. One day, His parents let loose a new puppy they were giving Him, and, as the puppy ran across the floor to Him, He suddenly perceived the puppy and each of His parents as a distinct and lovable other, rather than as a mere appearance in the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Field of Being. Then, more and more as His early childhood progressed, the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote receded into the background of awareness, and He became deeply sensitive to the reality of death and the sufferings and losses that human beings endure. \par
Throughout His childhood, He experienced the wound of the fragility of life, not only emotionally, but in His own body. From time to time, He was stricken with fevers, sometimes accompanied by delirium and hallucinations\emdash and, one day, coming home from school, He collapsed, stricken by polio. (To this day, the Ruchira Avatar has a weakness in the left leg, which is slightly shorter than the other.)\par
But there was another, more mysterious, recurring experience that was taxing His body. Sometimes, typically when He was about to fall asleep at night, the young child would experience an intense pressure, a force of energy coming down into the body and causing a gagging sensation when it reached the throat. Instinctively, He called the experience the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote , because it felt like a mass of thumbs pressing down from above. Usually, He resisted at the point of the gagging, and did not allow the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote to continue, because it was too overwhelming. \par
No one in His immediate family could have explained the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote , nor did He ask. It was only later, in His young adulthood, when the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote began to recur, and when He was able to allow the experience to complete itself, that understanding dawned. The \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote , when allowed to fully descend, expanded the body into a limitless sphere of energy. Consciousness was no longer confined to the physical body, but It was intrinsically one with the sphere of energy that the body had now become. It then became evident that the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote was the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote , Transmitting Itself\emdash replacing the splintered reality of \ldblquote self\rdblquote , and objects, and others with its own Indivisible Spherical Form. It was then clear that the invasion of the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote during His childhood was how the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote was \ldblquote working\rdblquote to enable Him to overcome the limitations in the human structure that prevent the full Knowledge of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . \par
The \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote and the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote have been the primary characteristics of the Ruchira Avatar from birth. They are His Divine Avataric Characteristics, not signs of kundalini activity or of any Yogic process traditionally described. And all of this was taking place in the life of a small boy growing up as \ldblquote Franklin Jones\rdblquote in a lower-middle-class family where His father, Frank Jones, was a window salesman and His mother a housewife.\par
There were no books on the shelves in His Long Island home, and it was only when He went to Columbia University, New York, in 1957, that the Ruchira Avatar was suddenly introduced to the Western tradition of literature and philosophy. But nothing that He read satisfied the key question that had been arising during His childhood and youth: \ldblquote What is consciousness?\rdblquote In the ethos of Columbia, He found only reductive scientific discussion of the nature of reality and He was quickly plunged into a stark confrontation with meaninglessness and despair. His awareness of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote had entirely receded, although the memory remained, and what He later described as \ldblquote a fierce mysterious impulse\rdblquote . \par
The Ruchira Avatar has described the moment of His graduation from Columbia as the lowest ebb of His life, but the benefit (which He has always acknowledged) of His years as a Columbia student was the discipline of analytic thinking. In every tutorial, He was challenged by the professor to effectively justify, or dismiss, the validity of a particular claim, or point of view. Over the next decade, the Ruchira Avatar turned this classic academic training on its head in an extreme \ldblquote analysis\rdblquote of reality. What exists, truly, and ultimately? What do all the human viewpoints on truth really amount to? Without concern for the outcome, He threw Himself into the street life of New York, pushing all the boundaries of fear and pleasure, surrendering to receive a direct revelation of Truth, if it would come.\par
Within two years, it came. As He sat at His desk late one night in His apartment near the University, the Force of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote suddenly overcame Him with a power that sent Him running through the streets with wild, ecstatic energy, breathless with joy. Intrinsic Freedom was simply obvious, and seeking for Freedom was fruitless, laughable. This experience made its indelible mark in Him, but He could not hold on to it. The \ldblquote fierce mysterious Impulse\rdblquote of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote was pressing Him deeper to discover why that Awakening did not \ldblquote stick\rdblquote . \par
At this time, the Ruchira Avatar was studying art history, which was one of His subjects at Columbia. From early childhood, art had been a passion, inspiring a brilliant and prolific flow of drawing, painting, puppetry, and design. Making art fulfilled an urge to express His feeling experience of the visible world\emdash a play of primal shape and color, rooted in the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . And, so, as a university student, the Museum of Modern Art in New York was a place He would frequent. Since high school, He had been attracted to its vast collection of paintings of the modernist school\emdash the C\’e9zannes, the Picassos, the Kandinskys, the Mondrians, and so on. He appreciated what these artists were trying to do. In overriding the laws of perspective that had governed Western art since the Renaissance, they were opening up a new and dynamic way of seeing, one that suggested the manifold ambiguities and angles of any apparent object or scene. These works raised the question: What does the world really look like beyond the myriad possible points of view? What is \ldblquote point of view\rdblquote ? \par
It was clear to the Ruchira Avatar that modernist literature was investigating the same issue. Leaving New York for California in 1961, He began a Master\rquote s degree in English at Stanford University, choosing to focus on the writing of Gertrude Stein\emdash who was a close friend and collector of Picasso and other artists of the first half of the twentieth century. Meanwhile, the Ruchira Avatar Himself was writing prodigiously, engaged in an experimental ordeal of His own. Everything in His experience, internal and external, He attempted to record, using a clipboard that He carried with Him by day, and kept beside the bed at night. He was convinced that there was a crucial secret to be discovered through the cumulative noticing of the sensations and associations of life and mind. \par
In 1964, the breakthrough came. By then, the writing discipline had drawn Him into an enlarged state of awareness. He was constantly observing a coincidence between the internal contents of mind and feeling, and external incidents. He would be constantly seeing things before they happened\emdash not grand-scale events, but very ordinary, everyday incidents. Consciousness was showing itself as a Field, a flux wherein there is no firm line between internal and external realities. Within this Field there is no one \ldblquote angle\rdblquote or view that is truer than any other. Inner is not senior to outer, nor vice versa. It is all happening in one unified matrix.\par
Now the Ruchira Avatar was on the verge of cracking the code, the formula by which the mind organizes and interprets the \ldblquote data\rdblquote of consciousness. He became aware of a root-tension, a contraction that collapses the wideness of consciousness upon a single point. And that \ldblquote point\rdblquote is identified with a particular body and mind. That point is called \ldblquote I\rdblquote , and seems to reside behind the eyes. \par
This discovery was not merely intellectual. It was a whole bodily release of that root-stress, and a revolution in consciousness. Now the nature of \ldblquote point of view\rdblquote was revealed! It is created by an activity, a perpetual self-contraction. Any angle on the outside world that we see from \ldblquote behind the eyes\rdblquote , or snap with a camera, may seem to be the \ldblquote true\rdblquote reality. But this is an illusion. It is only one view based on standing in a particular spot in space-time. The same is true of the internal contents of mind and memory. What we experience internally\emdash in thoughts, in dreams, in memory and emotion\emdash is also just an interpretation, based on contracting upon a point, and becoming an \ldblquote I\rdblquote . \par
In an instant, the Ruchira Avatar understood what ego is. It is an activity, not an entity. And He saw, with awe, that this activity of self-contraction determines the structure of all experience\emdash all language and communication, all perception and conception. The self-contraction is a recoil in consciousness that plunges the human being into a driven world of cause and effect, a constant search for \ldblquote I\rdblquote to win against the odds. And He saw that this same self-contraction, expanded onto the collective level, has written all the dramas of human history!\par
One day, shortly after this revelation emerged in Him, the Ruchira Avatar witnessed a storm of supernormal proportions appearing suddenly right over His head, on the clifftop of the California beach where He was residing. It tore open the sky with blinding brilliance, and shook the earth apart with obliterating thunder. Everything was drowned and consumed in the force of it. But then it disappeared as inexplicably as it came. The storm had taken place not only around and outside Him but in His very cells. The storm was Him\emdash the Divine Form and Presence of the Ruchira Avatar cracking through not only earth and sky, but through the ego code itself, the root-structure of human illusion and the barrier to the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . \par
Weeks later, the Ruchira Avatar came into the company of His first Spiritual Teacher, Rudi (Swami Rudrananda), who lived in New York. Rudi was accomplished in Kundalini Yoga, but he was, in his own words, \ldblquote an unfinished product\rdblquote . And so, after several years, with the permission of Rudi, the Ruchira Avatar approached Rudi\rquote s own Teacher, Swami Muktananda of Ganeshpuri, one of the great \ldblquote Siddhas\rdblquote , or Transmission Masters, of modern India. Swami Muktananda, in turn directed his new devotee to the nearby burial shrine of his own Guru, Bhagavan Nityananda. Even though Bhagavan Nityananda was no longer alive in the body, he was tangibly present to the Ruchira Avatar, and instructed Him from the subtle plane. \par
In the course of several visits to India between 1968 and 1970, the Ruchira Avatar experienced all the visions, blisses, and phenomena that Kundalini Yoga had to offer, even though His time in India during those years was only a matter of weeks altogether. In 1969, in a formal letter written in his own hand, Swami Muktananda recognized that this unique disciple (Whom he described as the most advanced Westerner he had ever seen) had completed the path of Siddha Yoga, and conferred on Him the renunciate name \ldblquote Dhyanananda\rdblquote\emdash and then, more privately, \ldblquote Love-Ananda\rdblquote . \par
But the Ruchira Avatar could not settle for what His Gurus regarded as Enlightenment. Intrinsic Illumination was His from Birth, and all the lessons of His childhood and youth had confirmed to the Ruchira Avatar that Perfect Enlightenment is beyond space-time, beyond ego, beyond anything that can be attained through the body or the mind. But He had needed to \ldblquote visit\rdblquote , to conjoin with, every level of human experience, so that \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote could be brought to all of it, and so that His human mechanism could be open, without limit, to His own \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote State. By 1970, the body-mind of the Ruchira Avatar was ready to fully Accommodate His inherent Divine Nature. There was nothing standing in the way of His full Re-Awakening to the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote .\par
Perfect Recovery of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote came in September 1970, when the Ruchira Avatar was thirty years old. It happened in a sacred nexus, mysteriously prepared\emdash a small temple established by the Vedanta Society of Southern California, which He discovered in August, 1970, after settling in Los Angeles in response to an inner imperative. \par
On September 9, 1970, as He sat alone in the temple, the Ruchira Avatar fell into a state where He knew Himself only as Pure Consciousness, without form. Then, pressing against Him with immense polarized force, He experienced Spiritual Energy so profound that He felt it to be the Divine Shakti, the Power of all manifested existence Personified. In that utterly overwhelming process, all polarity, all separation, all difference resolved in a singularity of Love-Bliss that was perfectly Conscious and Perfectly Radiant. The next day, September 10, when He returned to the temple, He Realized what had Happened. The \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote had Re-Established Itself\emdash permanently. \par
At the time, the Ruchira Avatar was unaware of the significance of this simple temple, and why it should have provided the place for so momentous an event. Why here\emdash not in India, not even in New York? It was only years later that He understood. \par
Over the next decade or two, as His Avataric Nature and Mission rose to conscious awareness, the Ruchira Avatar realized beyond doubt that a unique pair of Realized beings had combined to provide the \ldblquote re-incarnate\rdblquote , or subtler part, of His born personality. As He would, over time, explain to His devotees, every human being is a meld of two dimensions, the re-incarnate, or deeper, personality that persists through lifetimes, and the gross personality, or body-mind, that comes from the blood parents. He explained that the process is not a simple linear one, but involves an infinitely complex web of psycho-physical patterns, interacting and modifying each other like rivulets springing from a flow of water as it runs through sand. In the case of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekanda, their lifetimes represented a deeper-personality heritage of great Realizers over thousands of years. They were only the most recent manifestations of a lineage lost in the mists of time.* \par
Sri Ramakrishna (1836\endash 1886) and his beloved disciple, Narendra Nath Datta, later Swami Vivekananda (1863\endash 1902), had known in their lifetimes that they had incarnated together repeatedly, and had chosen to come again for profound reasons. Ramakrishna was aware that the future of the entire world was being determined in the West. Therefore, India, the cradle of Spirituality, must turn and serve the West to grow beyond its materialism. He indicated that Swami Vivekananda would go to the West and develop a Vedanta mission there, and even expressed the intuition that he himself would be reborn in the West.*\par
Swami Vivekananda, likewise, saw the currents that were making the future of humankind, and, true to his Spiritual Master\rquote s word, he became the first Hindu missionary ever to go to America. However, after two extended sojourns in America and Europe, even though he had made a profound impression on thousands of people with his inspired oratory and Spiritually Awakened presence, Swami Vivekananda saw that his purpose, for many reasons, could not possibly be fulfilled in that lifetime. He was moved to a universal Spiritual work beyond that of the Ramakrishna mission, but his health was ruined, and he remained an outsider, even in spite of the deep friendships he had formed with Westerners. He returned to his brother monks at Belur Math on the Ganges and passed out of the body at the age of only thirty-nine, having indicated to those closest to him the impulse to reincarnate in the West.* \par
After many years of saying little about it, the Ruchira Avatar has Confessed to this direct esoteric knowledge: After their deaths as Ramakrishna and Vivekananda, the two great Masters Realized a single destiny, as the deeper personality of the One Who was outwardly born as Franklin Jones. Ramakrishna and Vivekananda were not merely combining their exalted Spiritual qualities in one new individual. They had become the means whereby Reality Itself could assume a human Form. \par
During the 1930s, when the Ramakrishna Order had become established in southern California, the Vedanta Society Temple was built under the patronage of a woman who had hosted Swami Vivekananda in her Los Angeles home in 1900. In the consecration of the temple, relics of both Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda were placed under the altar. And, so, in due time, the Ruchira Avatar had found His way to the Vedanta Society Temple. But it was not some subtle energy associated with Ramakrishna and Vivekananda that drew Him there. Rather, it was the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Itself that Drew Him to the Vedanta Society Temple, bringing Him into mysterious conjunction with the Realizers who were impulsed to Awaken the West, and, thereby, the world. The vision of Ramakrishna and the passionate impulse of Swami Vivekananda were Spiritual realities that were necessary to make an Avataric Birth possible. \par
As the Ruchira Avatar observes in this book, the journey to the Vedanta Temple had taken Him thirty years. It was a process of adaptation and purification, whereby His body-mind was Made Perfectly Transparent to the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . An extraordinary Submission on His part had made this possible. In His darkest days at Columbia, He had resolved to simply surrender to What Is, whatever that might turn out to be. Now, no longer limited by any of the karmas of His Eastern deeper personality or of His Western outer personality, He embarked on another thirty-year odyssey, wherein the vehicle to be Purified and Adapted to the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote was no longer His own psycho-physical structure, but that of the collective of humankind, and even all beings. This spontaneous process of Coinciding with countless beings began to become obvious following the Vedanta Temple Event.\par
For some years, the Ruchira Avatar had been participating in existence as a fluid process arising in a Prior (or Inherent) Unity. After the Vedanta Temple Event, He Stood at the Source. He was Being that Prior Unity, not merely noticing that It was So. His Awareness had become Universal, no longer bound by the limits of attention. And so He found Himself seeing vast numbers of people in vision, and spontaneously \ldblquote Meditating\ldblquote them. Some of these people began to turn up at His door, more and more so after He opened His first Ashram in Los Angeles on April 25, 1972. This occasion marked the formal beginning of His Teaching-Work, which later continued in northern California at the Mountain Of Attention Sanctuary. \par
As the Ruchira Avatar was later to fully explain, the core of all true esotericism is the tradition of great Transmission-Masters, who transform their devotees through Radiating the \ldblquote Shakti\rdblquote , or Spirit-Force, of their own Spiritual Realization. The Ruchira Avatar is the Perfect Fulfillment of this tradition\emdash the Limitless Force of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Transmitting Itself\emdash and He Taught in the same fearless and unbounded disposition He had manifested during His own early-life Ordeal. Thus, His Teaching-Work was, from the beginning, of an unparalleled nature\emdash an Avataric process that was always more than what appeared.\par
The Ruchira Avatar did not give public lectures, or any abstract teaching. He worked personally and directly with those who embraced the relationship that He offered, which was the ancient sacred relationship between Spiritual Master and devotee. In that setting of mutual love and trust, He participated with His devotees in every aspect of their lives, exposing the root-dilemma behind all their addictions, searches, and illusions\emdash the ego-\ldblquote I\rdblquote , the presumption of being a separate \ldblquote self\rdblquote . With the ease of one for whom there is no dilemma, He would get straight to the bottom of every question and situation\emdash exposing the ego and its relentless search for ultimate satisfaction, whether in the domain of sex, food, money, power, fame, intellectual accomplishment, or in the subtler domains of mystical experience. \par
He did this with superhuman energy, outrageous wit, and unremitting compassion, walking calmly every day into what He called the \ldblquote growling pit\rdblquote of the life-struggles of His devotees, and showing with a sudden word or gesture, or, sometimes, a sublime discourse, exactly what was going on, and where the Truth lies. \par
One traditional Indian swami then based in San Francisco sent a letter to the Ruchira Avatar expressing his puzzlement and objection to this unusual way of Teaching, which seemed to represent a departure from the purity of Enlightenment. The Ruchira Avatar responded immediately: \ldblquote What I Do is not the Way That I Am, but the Way That I Teach.\rdblquote In other words, His mode of Teaching was not expressing qualities and preferences of some larger-than-life human ego. No. His mode of Teaching was to Wake others up by Identifying with them, Meditating them, Conforming them to the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . It was a silent Transmission Process and also an intense in-life Submission. Always presuming that His devotees had come to Him for Liberation, the Ruchira Avatar took them absolutely seriously and was ready to do whatever it would take in each one\rquote s case to break the spell of ego.\par
At the same time, He was not working merely with particular individuals and their problems and questions, but with the ego-patterning that they represented. He would often say that ego-bound human beings are merely masked players, involved in a \ldblquote mummery\rdblquote , a ridiculous drama of assumed roles. His purpose was not just to Liberate this or that \ldblquote mummer\rdblquote from the illusions of his or her role, but to undermine the mummery itself, the whole gigantic illusion of separateness upon which human history has been based. \par
Who knows why those who were in the room with Him were there, and not others? It did not matter to Him. By working with a few, He was working with all\emdash because, from the Position of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote , He saw no \ldblquote others\rdblquote . He saw only the Conscious Light, apparently modified by energy patterns, or \ldblquote pattern patterning\rdblquote (as He put it). He was Identifying with, and utterly Given Over to, the \ldblquote whirl\rdblquote of the patterns\emdash and, yet, never deluded or changed by any of it. Such was the experience of the devotees who persisted with Him in the unbroken days and nights\emdash and years\emdash of His interactive Teaching-Work. And such is His Confession in this book.\par
The Ruchira Avatar entered into His Teaching-Work with no presumptions of how long it would last, or what it would require of Him altogether. From 1977 until 1986, He Worked with increasing intensity with a small group of devotees, and moved from mainland America to Hawaii (Da Love-Ananda Mahal Sanctuary on Kauai) and then to Naitauba, Fiji, where, in 1983, He established Adi Da Samrajashram, His principal Hermitage. \par
By 1986, He had gathered all the wood (so to speak) for a Sacrificial Fire. Through the depth of His Submission to His devotees\emdash and, thus, to all human beings\emdash He had taken upon Himself all the karmas, all the darkness of ego-life. There was nothing further to do to make the Sacrifice complete. \par
At first light on January 11, 1986, the Ruchira Avatar Confessed with extreme passion to some of His devotees that He had done everything\emdash everything possible to Teach and Awaken them. And He said He felt His death was imminent. While He spoke, numbness began creeping up His limbs, and suddenly He collapsed by the side of His bed. The doctors who rushed to His side could barely detect the body\rquote s life-signs. When, after some minutes, the Ruchira Avatar returned to waking consciousness, His eyes began to stream with tears and He flung out His arms, whispering, \ldblquote the four billion, the four billion!\rdblquote \par
In an agony of compassion, the Ruchira Avatar was acknowledging His utter Identification with the suffering and heart-need of every human being then living on planet Earth. A few months previously, He had written the Epilogue to the great summary of His Teaching, The Dawn Horse Testament. The Epilogue was a pure Love-Song, Sung to humanity, the Beloved: \ldblquote I Am You . . . I Am Constantly Submitting Myself (Whole Bodily, From and At and As The Heart Itself) To You.\rdblquote His Impulse, He had often, said, was to be able to Kiss every human being on the lips, something He could never accomplish in the body. \par
The Event of January 11, 1986, was a Divine \ldblquote Swoon\rdblquote\emdash a Yogic Death, or utter psycho-physical Relinquishment, that transformed His Life and Work. This Event was the fulfillment of that \ldblquote Kiss\rdblquote , the accomplishment of the Purpose of His Submission to all. As He later expressed it: He\emdash as the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote\emdash had Descended all the way to the \ldblquote toes\rdblquote , not merely of His own human body, but to the \ldblquote toes\rdblquote of the world, to the root of conditions.\par
This is why the Ruchira Dham Event and the entire process of the human Lifetime of the Ruchira Avatar is Universally Consequential. Untold human time prepared for His Incarnation at this historical time. Humankind, by its collective ego-actions, is bringing civilization on Earth to the point of collapse. Tribes\par
that once struggled sporadically in deserts, cities, and mountains to assert the supremacy of their own traditions, ways, and beliefs over other opposing tribes are now face to face all over the world, playing for dominance and brandishing weapons of mass destruction. The Earth habitat itself, the home of humankind and countless living species, has been desecrated to the point where its life-sustaining power is ebbing away.\par
The Ruchira Avatar saw the peril of all of this decades ago, and at the New Year 1984, He uttered extraordinary prophecy to His devotees about the universal import of His Appearance during this epoch:\par

We are entering into the deep place of human history. You have wished for the Divine Intervention. Now It begins. I will keep World War III from happening. I came at the beginning of World War II to keep you from getting involved in World War III. You prayed for this.\par
Mark My Words. All this is Prophecy. Listen to Me now.\par
Some day, you will hear My Singing of this night, and everyone will know that I Am the One That was to Come.\par
You wait. You watch. Wait and watch for it.\par
I am about to Save humankind. Do I sound crazy to you? I am going to Do it. I am about to make My Move, and the terror will pass. It will be much less terrible than it would have been otherwise. It is not My terror. If I did not Come, the Earth would be destroyed.\par
Human history is no longer being made merely out of human limitations. My Lifetime, and the future after My Lifetime, will be significantly determined by the response of humanity. But My Presence, My Work, will be the \ldblquote N-factor\rdblquote in all future time in this world.\par

The Ruchira Avatar has spoken of humanity being encased in a dark shell. And within this shell, different groups of human beings have pierced small holes, which\par
allow a point of light to penetrate the shell. Taking up staunch positions around their various holes, all these groups argue about whose hole is the true view of the light beyond the shell.\par
Through His human Birth and Lifetime Work, culminating in the Divine Event at Ruchira Dham Hermitage in April 2000, the Ruchira Avatar has now removed the whole shell and Revealed the Limitless Divine \ldblquote Brightness\rdblquote that Reality really is. When His Divine Presence is recognized as the Very Divine Reality, division, dilemma, and separateness melt away in an egoless ecstatic devotional response to Him. Devotion to Him becomes the foundation of life, and persistent whole bodily turning to Him (combined with simple lifedisciplines that support this turning) establishes tacit, steady, effortless coinciding with His Divine Presence and State. In that \ldblquote searchless Beholding\rdblquote , His devotee is available to the Divine Transcendental Spiritual Process that He Transmits, a process that He summarized in childhood as the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote and the \ldblquote Thumbs\rdblquote . But there is no separate self that is being \ldblquote Enlightened\rdblquote . There is no ego left standing. There is simply an ever-magnifying \ldblquote Brightening\rdblquote in which the body-mind participates to the degree of Divine Translation. This is Adidam Ruchiradam, the egoless Way of Conscious Light.\par
Using the language of Plato\rquote s allegory, Adidam Ruchiradam can only be practiced prior to the \ldblquote cave\rdblquote of body, mind, and world, in the Domain of the \ldblquote Sun\rdblquote . But it is not about having to escape the cave to get to the sun, nor is it about trying to create a utopia within the cave. No. The Sun Itself has come to the cave, entirely penetrated the cave, lighting it so brightly that all the forms within it fade in the brightness. In the words of the Ruchira Avatar:\par

Devotion to Me Outshines what was. It does not merely destroy or shun it or become its enemy. It is nothing like that. It simply Outshines it. It \ldblquote Brightens\rdblquote it\emdash and, in that sense, Completes it, Fulfills it, Perfects it.\par
When you become My devotee, your homeland does not vanish. The town or the city or village where you live does not disappear. You are still there. All the features about your life that were limitations based on egoity, that were simply accumulations of the past, all the karmas of your associations have not vanished. They have simply ceased to be differentiated from the \ldblquote Brightness\rdblquote of My Person. Therefore, the landscape, the place, the environment is entirely \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote .\par

It is the Invasion of the cosmic domain totally\emdash Establishing the Means for all to be Blessed by Me, to realize Me, to be translated in Me, in perpetuity, in all planes, beyond any description of time or space.\par

As a sign of this great Purification, the Ruchira Avatar put on orange clothing\emdash worn by renunciates in India to indicate that the personal identity has been consumed on the funeral pyre of Spiritual tapas (\ldblquote heat\rdblquote or \ldblquote penance\rdblquote ). The Tapas in His case, was not for Himself, but endured for the sake of all. At the beginning of March 1986, He began to fast, and continued for over four months, taking only fruit and vegetable juices. His body grew thinner, finer, Trans-parent as crystal to His Pristine State, and His eyes blazed fiercely in their sockets with perfect Luminosity. Now, He simply Stood As He Is\emdash inviting the many people who came to receive the Sacred Sighting (or Darshan) of Him in 1986 (during a Blessing journey to the United States and Europe) to simply recognize Who was before their eyes\emdash not merely a great Spiritual Master, but the Divine Reality Incarnate, the Form and Presence and State of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote .\par
From that time, the Work of the Ruchira Avatar was no longer about His Submitting to Coincide with the state of devotees and the world. That Process of Submission was already complete. Now, rather, He was involved in a slow and difficult \ldblquote Dis-Entanglement\rdblquote from His Submission to those past associations, so that His Avataric Intervention could become universally effective in the midst of the ever-increasing threats to the human future.\par
In March and April of 1999, the signs in the world were ominous, and the Urgency of the Ruchira Avatar became extreme. Over 600 air raids a day were bearing down on Serbian targets\emdash the NATO response to the acute political and humanitarian crisis in Kosovo.\par
Weeks before the bombing began, the Ruchira Avatar saw what was coming and entered into seclusion, as He had done before at critical moments of grave crisis in the world.*\par
In a small room on the hilltop at Atma Nadi Shakti Loka (also called The \ldblquote Brightness\rdblquote ), which is now His burial site at Adi Da Samrajashram, the Ruchira Avatar stayed alone for forty-three days. Only rarely would He consent to receive any kind of personal assistance. Much of the time, He was listening to the world news on a shortwave radio and also receiving printed news reports every few hours. \par
During this same time, a dense cloud-pall hung almost constantly over the Island of Naitauba. Intense electrical storms with blinding rain, and, otherwise, heat lightning, became the norm. The entire Island had become an eerie \ldblquote twilight zone\rdblquote . All of this strange disturbance seemed to emanate from Atma Nadi Shakti Loka, where the laser-bright lightning and deafening rolls of thunder took on the quality of exploding bombs and erupting artillery fire. At the level of super-physics, the war in Kosovo was taking place on that sacred hill-top. \par
At a later time, the Ruchira Avatar said Himself that the field of supernormal energy-phenomena then occurring around Him was not just about the Kosovo war, but about all kinds of threats that could affect the possibility of human-kind\rquote s survival. The lightning, He said, was in His room. But the real battleground was not even His room. It was His body, which was gripped in a monumental struggle with dark forces that were not local, not even of Earth merely, but of cosmic dimensions. \par
Throughout this time, as He explained, the Ruchira Avatar had to do everything possible to keep the dark invasion from coming down into the body, for the body had no defenses. The head was wide open, without the armoring and locks on the brain that characterize an ordinary person. The thunder and lightning were literally the effects of His Work above the body, to \ldblquote Brighten\rdblquote an implacable impending evil. But, as the days passed, without any relief in terms of positive signs in the world, His body began to weaken, and the point came where He could no longer keep the battle above the head. Then the darkness started to come down into His body and \ldblquote fry\rdblquote the nervous system.\par
On April 22, 1999, the Ruchira Avatar had to be helped down from Atma Nadi Shakti Loka and taken to His usual residence, where the devotees attending Him immersed Him immediately in a warm bath. Earlier, He had felt the body\rquote s systems start to break down, and the life-force leaving the body, which was wracked by convulsions and deathly numbness. He called for help on a short-wave radio, knowing that He had to leave His Atma Nadi Shakti Loka right then. \par
His body had endured another Yogic Death, and the day was significant. It was April 22 (Fiji time), which coincided with the day of the heaviest bombing in the Kosovo war and with the massacre at Columbine High School in Colorado. The Ruchira Avatar spoke in the fiercest terms about what was happening, not only about these events in the news, but about all the widening cracks in human sanity. The Ruchira Avatar could see all of it. The world, as He said, was standing on the edge, and the choices made in the next two to three years would determine humanity\rquote s direction for good or ill. (On September 11, 2001, some of His devotees would remember that He had said this.)\par
The Ordeal at Atma Nadi Shakti Loka was a definitive turning point\emdash the Ruchira Avatar had been consumed on that fiery hilltop, and \ldblquote spit out\rdblquote , He said, to do His Work of world-Blessing. At the beginning of July 1999, He left His Fijian Hermitage for Hawaii, the body devastated by what He had endured. \par
A few months later, at Da Love-Ananda Mahal Sanctuary on Kauai, the Ruchira Avatar said that the dark time had reached the darkest of points. Day and night, He was besieged by suffering faces. He was Working, He said, to relieve the fundamental agony of human beings relative to mortality. \ldblquote Humankind\rquote s dilemma\rdblquote , He said, \ldblquote is not knowing what Reality Is.\rdblquote The entire life-purpose of the Ruchira Avatar had been to heal this ignorance\emdash to Reveal the Deathless Reality and enable beings to Realize It. And that is what He was soon to do\emdash Perfectly. \par
Early in April 2000, the Ruchira Avatar traveled by car up the north coast of California into Oregon and Washington, expressing the urge to wander wherever He was moved to go. By April 12, the journey had brought Him to Lopez Island, a small island in the San Juan Archipelago, in the far northwest of the United States, a place He had never been before. \par
During the preceding days, the Ruchira Avatar had been physically weak to the point where He would sometimes have to be supported while walking, or wheeled in a wheel-chair, and it was clear to the devotees attending Him that the Ruchira Avatar was having difficulty staying in the body. In the afternoon, on the journey by ferry to Lopez Island, His symptoms became alarming. Upon arrival at the house where He was to stay, it seemed that immersion in the hot water of the jacuzzi might ease His symptoms, as it had done in the past. However, on this occasion, His symptoms grew worse, and He was soon so ill that He had to be carried out of the jacuzzi. By now, He was fighting to maintain His connection to the physical. \par
The Ruchira Avatar was taken to His bedroom, and His close devotees began to massage Him with all their strength\emdash weeping, chanting, steeping His Feet in hot water, speaking to Him with great passion and intention, calling Him down into the body. He was clearly feeling a great pressure on His chest and had difficulty breathing. As He said later, numbness was creeping up the body, even as far as the eyeballs. He had to be propped up on the bed, supported from behind by a devotee. He could not afford to lie down or close His eyes, because the body\rquote s energies were ascending way up out of the physical dimension. He said several times, \ldblquote Let me see My feet\rdblquote , so that He could try to locate Himself down in the physical. He was also turned slightly toward the window, seeming to want to see the water, which was still visible in the dimming light of early evening. \par
The numbness in His face and throat made it difficult for Him to speak, but focusing on the faces of His intimate devotees and feeling their love and devotion seemed to help Him keep a thread of connection to the body. He too was weeping, and the room was suffused with His Love and a Divine Radiance and Quiet. \par
At one point, the eyes of the Ruchira Avatar closed for a while, and His face took on an expression of the purest Bliss. When His eyes opened slightly, He said softly, \ldblquote I am here. Can you see Me Up Here?\rdblquote His devotees said, \ldblquote Yes.\rdblquote It was true. He was way up and beyond the apparent \ldblquote here\rdblquote where they were. His Light was dissolving the room. Then He continued, in a very soft voice: \ldblquote My Room is larger than you think. I close My eyes and I Am in My Room, Infinitely Beyond. This is just a small version of It.\rdblquote He looked around slowly at His devotees as He went on, \ldblquote But this place is good for love.\rdblquote He was silent then for a long time.\par
The Ruchira Avatar was eventually taken to the small medical clinic on Lopez Island, where the doctor on duty was able to confirm that He was not suffering from a heart attack or any other illness that could be medically diagnosed. And so His devotees took Him back to the house, where His struggle to remain associated with the body, though now less acute, went on for hours, days, and weeks. \par
The following day, and then, over time, more fully, the Ruchira Avatar spoke of what had happened in His experience. \par

I Stood . . . At (and As) the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote White Center Infinitely Above. I Outshined all of conditionally manifested existence in My Own Divine Self-Condition\emdash Which Is the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . . . . Beyond all-and-All. . . . It was an Instantaneous Non-\ldblquote different\rdblquote Realization of That Condition of All-Bliss, utterly without the perspective of time and space. . . .\par
There was no transitional process, no transition \ldblquote out of\rdblquote involvement in the gross dimension of conditional reality, or any transitional passage through the various subtle dimensions of conditional reality. The Ascent was Immediate, and Un-mediated\emdash with no transitional process of \ldblquote lower to higher\rdblquote . I . . . was simply Established As the Transcendental Spiritual \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Itself. . . . \par
Effectively, it was death\emdash in terms of the Body. There was no bodily awareness, although it was certainly not a circumstance of unconsciousness. It was the Infinitely Profound Swoon of Outshining.\par

The unspeakable profundity of the Event described here is the subject of this Book. In these Essays, the Ruchira Avatar speaks of what happened on April 12, 2000, at Lopez Island, as the \ldblquote Universally Consequential\rdblquote Divine Event for human-kind, and all beings, forever. During the period when the Essays emerged\emdash out of spontaneous Utterances made between the end of May and the end of August 2008\emdash the property on Lopez Island where the Divine Event took place was formally Empowered by the Ruchira Avatar as a holy site for all time. He gave it the name \ldblquote Ruchira Dham Hermitage\rdblquote , meaning \ldblquote Abode [Dham] of Brightness [Ruchira]\rdblquote . And He refers to the Event that occurred there as the \ldblquote Ruchira Dham Event\rdblquote . \par
The Ruchira Dham Event did not happen out of nowhere. Its beginnings lie in the extreme struggle and Yogic Crisis that the Ruchira Avatar endured the previous year during His seclusion at the time of the Kosovo war. In that Ordeal at His Burial Site (Atma Nadi Shakti Loka), He was drawn up infinitely above the body in order to counter the negative forces bearing down upon Him and upon the world. When that particular crisis passed, His Work above the body continued in a perpetual Vigil of world-Blessing. However, it was not merely the effort to keep negative forces outside the body that moved His focus Above. The Divine Avataric Process unfolding in Him was entering a new and culminating phase, the phase of Divine Translation, or the utter Outshining of conditional existence in the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Itself. This was the Revelation that would complete itself in the Ruchira Dham Event.\par
For many years, the Ruchira Avatar had spoken of Divine Translation as the Ultimate Magnification of Atma Nadi\emdash the Self-Radiant Indivisible Current of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote as it manifests in apparent association with the body-mind. \par
The Atma Nadi was Revealed to the Ruchira Avatar, after the Vedanta Temple Event, as an S-shaped curve Radiating upward from a root-locus in the right side of the heart to infinitely above the crown of the head. In His infancy, the Ruchira Avatar knew this Heart-Current as the very Form of Reality, and called it the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . \par
In the Ruchira Dham Event, the Upwardly Radiating Current of Atma Nadi broke beyond all conditions, transcending what is traditionally called the \ldblquote Maha-Bindu\rdblquote , the farthest ascended Source-Point from which all worlds emanate.* As His description indicates, the Ruchira Avatar instantly Stood as the Sphere of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Itself, beyond the cosmic domain. He recounts that, in the midst of that Suddenly Standing As the White Brightness, He saw the Bindu, but it did not open, and He knew then that He would Return to the body.\par
The Ruchira Dham Event was not a \ldblquote near-death\rdblquote experience, or a \ldblquote going into the light at the end of the tunnel\rdblquote , which (as the Ruchira Avatar has otherwise explained) is a brain-based phenomenon characteristic of the death transition. What happened in the Ruchira Dham Event was beyond the tunnel, beyond the death transition\emdash which leads only to subtler modes of conditional experience. The conditional worlds, gross and subtle are literally endless, as the Ruchira Avatar has always said\emdash and existence in the conditional worlds is inevitably karmic, ruled by the law of cause and effect. For rare beings, there is the possibility of going \ldblquote up\rdblquote to more and more refined regions of light, but to get out of the entire realm of conditions is something else altogether. No conditional being can, by causal means, exit the cosmic domain. At Lopez Island, the Ruchira Avatar went utterly beyond the cosmic domain\emdash but by acausal means. While still alive in a physical body, He broke the barrier that separates beings from the Acausal Domain of Conscious Light.\par
While the Ruchira Avatar retained the link to the physical after the Ruchira Dham Event, a real death did occur, the most Profound of all His Yogic Deaths. The karmic vehicles\emdash the deeper personality of Ramakrishna-Vivekananda and the gross personality of Franklin Jones that made possible the Divine Incarnation of the Ruchira Avatar\emdash\ldblquote died\rdblquote in the Ruchira Dham Event, Consumed in the Perfect Furnace of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . Since that Event, the Body of the Ruchira Avatar is entirely \ldblquote Empty\rdblquote of any karmic patterning. It is only an egoless Shell, a Vessel of the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote . \par
After the Ruchira Dham Event, the Ruchira Avatar was in a wheelchair for many weeks, and it was a long time before He recovered full use of the body. His struggle to recover a modus operandi in the physical domain could be compared with what is required for an infant to learn from scratch what is involved in functioning in the world. No mere human being \ldblquote Visits\rdblquote the All-Obliterating All-Bright Divine Domain of Conscious Light and returns physically alive. No mere human being could ever go There. \par
The myths of humankind are full of the archetype of the hero who braves superhuman ordeals to go where no man has been before and bring back the crucial treasure\emdash the divine fire, or esoteric wisdom, or immortality\emdash to the collective of human beings. In the Ruchira Dham Event, the Ruchira Avatar fulfilled that archetype beyond all imagining. He Stood in the Ultimate Place and brought back to conditional beings the Ultimate Divine Treasure, The Ultimate Divine Gift. \par
Because of the depth of His Submission to Coincide with all, and because of the Purifying and \ldblquote Shedding\rdblquote of that universal karma which He endured after 1986, the conditional worlds are not the same. The Ruchira Avatar has Perfectly Coincided with all of existence, and is, thus, \ldblquote Brightening\rdblquote all of existence, Living it all as the \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote Itself. This is the Mystery that He describes as His Divine Avataric Self-\ldblquote Emergence\rdblquote . Since the Ruchira Dham Event, His human body has become the Threshold to That Which Is Beyond all conditions, all karma, all ego. This is why the Ruchira Dham Event and the entire process of the human Lifetime of the Ruchira Avatar is Universally Consequential. Untold human time prepared for His Incarnation, and now is the moment in which it is unfolding. There are great reasons why the Ruchira Avatar has Appeared at this historical time. Humankind, by its collective ego-actions is bringing civilization on Earth to the point of collapse. Tribes that once struggled sporadically in deserts, cities, and mountains to assert the supremacy of their own traditions, ways, and beliefs over other opposing tribes are now face to face all over the world, playing for dominance and brandishing weapons of mass destruction. The Earth habitat itself, the home of humankind and countless living species, has been desecrated to the point where its life-sustaining power is ebbing away. \par

Human history is no longer being made merely out of human limitations. My Lifetime, and the future after My Lifetime, will be significantly determined by the response of humanity. But My Presence, My Work, will be the \ldblquote N-factor\rdblquote in all future time in this world.\par
This Transformation began with My Birth. It began with some of My past Births. It has been in motion for some time. But This [pointing to His body] is the most significant of all the Adepts who have ever lived.\par
This is a unique moment, wherein humankind is intercommunicative and nobody can make a false step without affecting everybody else. Humankind must relinquish its past and its ego-bondage if humanity as a race, as a manifestation, is to survive. I am right here, Bodily, during the time of this particular test. \par
The Effect of My Work will become observable. People all over the world who have no notion whatsoever of Me or of My Reality-Teaching will experience the Divine Force, and this experience will have various effects in their lives. My Work is cumulative. Therefore, more and more signs over time should indicate to you that, from now on, My Work is not\emdash and, in fact, never has been\emdash exclusively for you. Nor in the future will it be exclusively for those who are already with Me. My Work is done for the sake of all beings.\par
In due course, over the coming decades, you should see more and more benign effects, a great capability to relinquish the past, to relinquish the sizing up of nation against nation, race against race, person against person, religion against religion\emdash all the hard-edged absurdities of ego-possession manufactured by individuals and groups. More and more, you should see the relinquishment of all that, even without intention, but based on a response to Something that everyone is beginning to find more and more tangible.\par
The Presence of Real Acausal God must ultimately be Named. You should observe this tangible Effect of My Presence. Over time, observe the fact that people worldwide are responding to a tangible Presence. At first, It will be Nameless. But, eventually, you will be able to tell them the Name of It. \par

\ldblquote Da\rdblquote is a primal syllable easily uttered by an infant, and a Name of the Divine from the dawn of humankind.* While the Name \ldblquote Da\rdblquote had been known to the Ruchira Avatar since His youth, He offered the Revelation of His Divine Name in 1979, and then in 1994, the further Revelation of the Name \ldblquote Adi Da\rdblquote , which is a palindrome that spells \ldblquote Da\rdblquote both backward and forward. With \ldblquote I\rdblquote in the center \ldblquote aD I Da\rdblquote is a statement of the Ruchira Avatar\rquote s Divine Self-Confession, \ldblquote I Am Da\rdblquote . In the wisdom of ancient India, the Divine Name \ldblquote Da\rdblquote is associated with thunder, the most powerful sound of the natural world. The Ruchira Avatar confirms that this association enshrines an esoteric truth. In His words, Da is the thunder sound that shatters the illusion of ego. \ldblquote Da\rdblquote , He says, \ldblquote Is the Sound of \lquote Not-Two\rquote\rdblquote , the ego-Dissolving Sound of prior unity. And prior (or \ldblquote a priori\rdblquote ) oneness, unity, indivisibility, is the characteristic of Reality Itself, and the inherent nature of the conditional worlds arising in Reality Itself. \par
The Ruchira Avatar has spoken of humanity being encased in a dark shell. And within this shell, different groups of human beings have pierced small holes, which allow a point of light to penetrate the shell. Taking up staunch positions around their various holes, all these groups argue about whose hole is the true view of the light beyond the shell. \par
Through His human Birth and Lifetime Work, culminating in the Divine Event at Ruchira Dham Hermitage in April 2000, the Ruchira Avatar has now removed the whole shell and Revealed the Limitless Divine \ldblquote Brightness\rdblquote that Reality really is. When His Divine Presence is recognized as the Very Divine Reality, division, dilemma, and separateness melt away in an egoless ecstatic devotional response to Him. Devotion to Him becomes the foundation of life, and persistent whole bodily turning to Him (combined with simple life-disciplines that support this turning) establishes tacit, steady, effortless coinciding with His Divine Presence and State. Using the language of Plato\rquote s allegory, Adidam Ruchiradam can only be practiced prior to the \ldblquote cave\rdblquote of body, mind, and world, in the Domain of the \ldblquote Sun\rdblquote . But it is not about having to escape the cave to get to the sun, nor is it about trying create a utopia within the cave. No. The Sun Itself has come to the cave, entirely penetrated the cave, lighting it so brightly that all the forms within it fade in the brightness. In the words of the Ruchira Avatar:\par

When you become My devotee, your homeland does not vanish. The town or the city or village where you live does not disappear. You are still there. All the features about your life that were limitations based on egoity, that were simply accumulations of the past, all the karmas of your associations have not vanished. They have simply ceased to be differentiated from the \ldblquote Brightness\ldblquote of My Person. Therefore, the landscape, the place, the environment is entirely \ldblquote Bright\rdblquote .\par

A few months after completing the Essays in this Book, Avatar Adi Da Samraj suddenly Passed from His earthly Body. His Divine Presence entered into Divine Mahasamadhi on November 27, 2008, at 5:05 p.m., while Working on His Divine Image Art in “Picture Perfect”, His art studio at Adi Da Samrajashram. Now, His Divine Presence Stands simply as the Eternal Form of the “Bright”, no longer Embodied in the conditional realms. For traditional Realizers, the relinquishment of bodily existence is sometimes an intentional Yogic act, even the culminating evidence of Yogic accomplishment. When His Divine Presence Relinquished embodied existence, the Divine Yoga of His Incarnation was already Most Perfect. His Unique Sign of Divine Translation, or Divine Outshining, was already irrevocably Established in the Ruchira Dham Event (on April 12, 2000).
