CHAPTER 23

Know My Love and Grant It to All Others

SRI DA AVABHASA: Find out what true Happiness is in every moment and communicate that Happiness.

* * *

The Happiness of Which I Speak is not just a matter of feeling good and being able to smile. That is not Happiness Itself. At most that represents a kind of ordinary personal equanimity. The Happiness of Which I Speak is spelled with a capital “H”, and It is the Love-Blissfulness of Divine Being Itself, Prior to the body-mind and its relations.

* * *

Happiness is simply the Self-Radiance of the Divine Self.

* * *

Nothing could be more mad than to be Happy in this place, because there is really no justification for it. It is not reasonable to be Happy. If you thoroughly examine this world, there is reason to feel very un-Happy. Even a little pleasurableness thrown in is not enough to overcome the conviction of darkness that you get when you really see what is happening here. Therefore, not any philosophy you can base on your experience here makes you Happy. Complete release from implications, from the force of this dreaming, from this appearance for which you cannot account makes you Happy.

And it is already miraculous. Nothing fantastic has to happen. You already cannot account for a single thing in this room here. The mere existence of anything is beyond comprehension. It is sufficient to boggle you. You do not know what a single thing is. You cannot build any great programs for victory on the basis of such Divine Ignorance. On the basis of that Divine Ignorance, you are naturally disposed to all of this arising, and you may be led into the intuitive acknowledgement of the Divine Self-Condition of all of this arising.

Before you start imagining a program for your ultimate victory or defeat, by desiring and creating circumstances for yourself, just before all of that happens in this moment, just before you believe all of that, you are Happy. That Happiness is your true Condition. All the rest of it is an hallucination by which you program your life. Therefore, the matter of sadhana in the Way of the Heart is simple. It is not complicated, not a complicated involvement with all of the stuff that obsesses you. Wherever all that is seen and yielded, your conscious awareness assumes its native, intuitive Condition. That Condition is Satsang with Me. That is Divine Communion. That is what all of this is about.

* * *

The Price Of Happiness In every moment Is Release Of self-Contraction (and Release Of The Search To Acquire, Hold On To, or Strategically Escape the conditions Of conditional Existence). This Release Is Possible Only If There Is Most Fundamental selfUnderstanding. And That Most Fundamental self-Understanding May Be Fulfilled, Most Ultimately and Most Perfectly, Only By Distracted Love Of The By Grace Revealed Person Of Reality, Truth, and Happiness.

* * *

This is the demand which always obliges My devotee and with which My devotee is always at odds by tendency: You should look and feel and be and act completely Happy under all conditions.

* * *

Love is the energy of My Transmitted Happiness. If you are My devotee, then you know that Love, that Blessing, and It Falls on you every day, It Fills you up, It makes you Ecstatic, and you grant It to all other beings. Your entire life is the work of that granting of Love. Your life is finding every way possible to grant Love to everyone, because by granting it you magnify your participation in Itremarkably, paradoxically.

An appropriate order of life must be established, in which there is room for absolute blissfulness. . . . When the life is only open, when this incredible Force is flowing through, it churns you, it purifies the life. Then there is nothing at last to be unhappy about, nothing to think about. The flood of enjoyment rushes through the body, dissolves the mind, overwhelms the life. The real intelligence of conscious life begins to intensify and function in place of ignorance. And that intelligence has no answers. It has no questions. That state without answers and without questions is the true state. From that state, the “creation” of marvels begins.

* * *

Ishta-Guru-Bhakti is ecstasy. Now, as such an ecstatic heart, free to bring the love-principle into life, do it! And do it in your intimacies. Do it in everything.

* * *

In the Way of the Heart, ecstasy requires the entire body. Sexual activity is a means of ecstatic living, but you must not reduce your ecstatic life to sexing. Yes, use sexuality in that ecstatic manner, but you must also have the ability to drop out of the social persona and live an ecstatic.life every day. This is the primary function of true religion.

Conventional, or exoteric, religion, however, is not about that. It is about the social persona, which commands people toward moral and socially productive activity. Social productivity tends to be the whole of conventional religion. That is it. The social structure commands you to be the social persona only and not to be ecstatic. However, people collapse under the stress of that demand, and they adapt to a merely self-indulgent life, exploiting drugs and alcohol, even sexuality, because they are under stress.

It is neither right nor natural to divorce yourself from ecstasy. Ecstasy is the primal function of the human being. The social function is certainly useful and necessary. But it must not be enforced to the degree of excluding ecstasy and the actual practice of ecstasy. If you have such freedom, then your fundamental exercise is in the religious life, and not merely in the exoteric religious life, which reinforces the social personality. So-called moral and socially useful activity is really the only purpose of exoteric religion. True religion is esoteric. True religion may combine itself with things that are otherwise considered exoteric, but it is about ecstasy. It is about ego transcendence.

If you are free to live a truly religious life, then you practice ecstasy under all kinds of circumstances, all the time in fact. In the Way of the Heart, such ecstasy is feeling-Contemplation of Me to the degree that you manifest love, incarnate love and its signs, in daily life. Therefore, as My devotee, Contemplate Me and do not just live a moral life. Live a life of love in My Awakening Company. Then practice all the meditative and other exercises that are occasions of ecstasy – Puja, chanting, song, praise.

The whole process of truly religious or Spiritual life is about ecstasy, or transcending egoity, to the point of Realizing Me, or the One Who Is when there is no contraction, the One Who Is the Divine Self-Condition.

True religion transforms life and touches all aspects of your living. True religion, then, is a primary requirement of human beings. It is not merely something that comes down through time that should be used to command moral or socially useful behavior. It is a culture and a key mechanism for the fulfillment of what a human life is about. It is a heart matter. And it is about ecstasy, or the transcendence of egoity.
