CHAPTER 31 The True Politics of Human Relationships SRI DA AVABHASA: No individual should live as the
superior, or the inferior, or even the equal, of all others.
Rather, each should live as the intimate servant of others
through love. The true politics of human relationships is
the politics of servants everywhere–every one serving, and
every one served. * * * Some individuals feel superior, and others feel inferior,
and some alternate between the two. Whatever your
characteristic strategy of reluctance, it is not
Ishta-Guru-Bhakti Yoga. * * * I said to some among you recently that My true devotee is
nobody-not a climber, not a self-seeker, not a person
designed by tendency to be prominent although My devotee
could be any of those. No one is inherently disqualified,
but such social signs are not the measure. The humblest are
the greatest. Those who relinquish the ego are the
greatest. There are all kinds of strengths in human beings. Anyone
can be strong. But remarkably enough, those who may seem
weakest, according to the standards of ego-survival, may
potentially be the greatest. I Am Realization Itself. Thus, in truly self-surrendering
and selfforgetting, and therefore self-transcending,
Communion with Me, the Realization is Accomplished, Given to
you gratis, for free, immediately. Not that you can get
puffed up and feel, “I’ve already got it because I
Contemplate Da Avabhasa”. It is not about such
self-referring. It is about self-surrender, about
self-forgetting, in feeling-Contemplation of Me. This Gift
is not an attribute of the ego. As My devotee, you have the right and the cause and the
circumstance to be Happy, but not proud. Realization has
nothing to do with you. * * * In the Way of the Heart, there is no superior person by
virtue of experience, because experience is not the process
of Satsang with Me. Satsang with Me is a sacred Condition
into Which all My devotees enter and in Which all enjoy the
same privilege and responsibility. Therefore, it is your
responsibility to love and to be free and to break down the
cult of experience, whether you have been My devotee for
years or for three and a half days. When you gather with others of My devotees to study My
Wisdom-Teaching, or just to talk with someone who is My
devotee, this responsibility I Give you holds at all times.
Whoever is leading a study group or some other group in the
culture of My devotees is not the authority, although you
may tend to make it so and thus reinforce the need in that
person to act like an authority, to pretend to be the
source. * * * In the Way of the Heart, you are always observing that
you cannot fulfill the discipline. You are continually being
shown the failure of your life, the conventional strategy of
your life, the false commitment of your life. Such
inspection is what practice of the Way of the Heart is all
about. It is not about winning! It is about Truth, Freedom
in the Divine Reality! There are no winners in the Divine,
none. You must yield your victory. For most people Spiritual
life suggests a kind of effort at the end of which they are
supposed to be the hero, the winner, the victor. Such a view
is an illusion. The fulfillment of the disciplines in the
Way of the Heart is coincident with fulfillment of the
Divine Law, which is sacrifice, or love. * * * The Way of the Heart is the Way of life in which you lose
face in each moment, in which you are My serving devotee,
the servant of the Divine Person, dependent upon the Service
of the Divine Person. Unless such a literal and conscious
and Ecstatic and facelosing affair appears in every moment
as your life, you are not doing sadhana in the Way of the
Heart. * * * I Love all My devotees. I Love each one of My devotees
Perfectly. All My devotees have equal access to Me. All My
devotees receive My Grace. You cannot get closer to Me by
standing in one group or another. All My devotees are
intimate with Me. * * * Because you live in a so-called egalitarian
culture-egalitarian by presumption, anyway-everybody thinks
(snaps fingers) “I am ready, I am up to it, I am it, I can
read a book, I have got some ideas in my head-that means I
am ready for the Ultimate Realization.” DIVINE
SELF-REALIZATION IS A GREAT WORK! A great doing! And you
must humble yourself to do it, surrender yourself, equip
yourself with humility and surrender. It is not huffing and
puffing, full of words and nonsense! IT IS A GREAT
MATTER! The Way of the Heart, which I have introduced here, will
go on and on and on if you will take responsibility for its
practice. The Way of the Heart does not come to an end with
My physical Lifetime. Likewise, the simple fact that you are
in My Company does not mean that you will fulfill the Way of
the Heart Ultimately in your present lifetime. Most of you
will not. Nevertheless, if you will establish yourself for
real, authentically, in the Way of the Heart, you will go on
with it during this life and after it. Be grateful that it
is so. Establish your link to Me and to the Way of the Heart for
real in this lifetime, and your practice of the Way of the
Heart will persist. Stop all your pretenses, in the midst of
an unsurrendered life especially. Do you think that just
because you can think and become enthusiastic and indulge in
grandiose self-imagery it means that you are up to Most
Perfectly self-transcending God-Realization? No, it does
not! How many great Saints and great Yogis have there ever
been? To Realize the seventh stage of life (which is
Revealed and Given only by Me) requires more than Sainthood
and mystical Realization–extraordinarily more than
that! You trivialize the God-Realizing process in My Company
with your self-imagery. You imagine that just because you
are in My Company, Divine Self-Realization is going to
happen to you. You can begin that Great Process now, but
most of you are not even going to come close to fulfilling
it in this lifetime. And lucky for you that it goes on and
on, that death is not the end. Link yourself to Me, and the process will continue, after
death and after future embodiments anywhere. Immense time is
the context in which you should be My devotee. * * * There is no righteousness. There is only My Divine
Happiness Itself. Go and make morality out of That. Go and
make society, community, life, and death out of That. That
is My WisdomTeaching. * * * DEVOTEE: I feel so unlovable. SRI DA AVABHASA: You are unlovable? Out of all these
billions here you are selected out to be unlovable? What
makes you so damned important? All beings are lovable by
those who can love. * * * In some sense, self-doubt is very amusing. Everybody has
experienced it. In the mood of self-doubt, you find yourself
to be uniquely unacceptable, uniquely wrong, uniquely
incapacitated, incapable, undesirable. Actually, you are
merely one among all others. Everyone is in the same
circumstance. Nobody is uniquely divorced or divorceable
from anything. Such a belief is an illusion, a naive and
false presumption. The opposite belief – megalomania, exaggerated egoity, an
exaggerated sense of your own worth is equally false and
ridiculous. Nobody is that good, and nobody is that bad. * * * What is to be praised about each of you has to do with
the Divine Being. What others love in you is not something
to doubt or speak negatively about, but neither should you
egoically identify with the praiseworthy characteristics.
Everyone is in a position to be loved and even praised.
Therefore, what is the justification for this ridiculous
modesty or this ridiculous self-doubt? Instead of being
modest or full of self-doubt, become a lover, become a
sacrifice, grant life to others, and let the Beauty that is
Truth Shine in your own person. * * * DEVOTEE: Sri Gurudev, I am feeling that Your future Work
is with those who are ready for the Spiritually activated
practice of the Way of the Heart. SRI DA AVABHASA: My Work is with all My devotees. They
are all necessary participants, not just the most advanced
or the most mature, the renunciates. All, I Love all My
devotees, and I accept and embrace them all in the
particularity of their practice of the Way of the Heart. * * * You must love one another, have compassion for your
limitations and the limitations of others, and forget about
the fact that you are not perfect, and neither is anyone
else. * * * There need not be perfection on Earth for Happiness
Itself to Exist. All that is necessary is your Communion
with Me, with That Which Is Inherently Perfect. * * * Your practice is not a matter of perfecting the
body-mind. It is a matter of transcending it. If you
transcend the body-mind from moment to moment, it will be
transformed and show you signs. It may show you good signs
one day, and you may think you are into “wow-ee!”
evolution-land. Don’t buy it! It will also show you negative
signs. Some day the body-mind is going to die. The natural signs
take their time, and the body-mind drops off sooner or
later. Consciousness itself is not fundamentally affected by
that event. It is affected in reaction, because of Its
feeling of apparent association with conditions, but
Consciousness Itself has never changed. It will never be any
different than It Is right now. You cannot perfect It. It is
simply what It Is. The Divine Is Eternally and Inherently
Perfect. * * * Most people are hypercritical of others and find it
impossible to associate with others truly or even to truly
enjoy being alive because life is not perfect yet. Life is
not wholly congenial to most people, so they stand back and
criticize or simply have nothing to do with it. A typical fault associated with egoity is that people are
not very capable of relationships at any level. As My
devotee, you must overcome this fault. You will never find
justification in life for loving even one other person or
even for being happy. Therefore, you must become wise. You
must understand yourself. You must hear Me and see Me and
Find Me As I Am, and, if you do, then you will acquire
tolerance for the ordeal of life. You will re-acquire the
capability for relationships. The essence of egoity is the avoidance of relationship.
The ego inherently contains the hypercritical disposition
that results in withdrawal, dissociation, the withholding of
love. The withholding of participation in life makes any
human individual into a leech on the system of the world,
looking for advantage without commitment, feeding off the
energy created by the participation of others. Such an
individual never becomes a participant in life, never dares
to love or tolerate or commit to others, and never dares to
make changes. Instead of dramatizing that fault, as My devotee you must
hear Me and see Me. In My Divine Company, you must become a
creative participant in the Totality of life, Which is the
Divine Reality. * * * The Way Of The Heart Is Not the path Of self-Fulfillment
(or Of Fulfillment Of the conditional self). Therefore,
Neither Is It The Pursuit Of physical, emotional, mental,
moral, psychic, or Cosmic self-Perfection (or Of Perfection
Of the conditional self). All Ideas (or Ideals) Of
self-Perfection (or Of Perfection of the conditional self)
Are conventions of egoity, and The Pursuit Of
self-Perfection (or Of Perfection Of the conditional self)
Is The Epitome Of egoic Seeking. The Ideal Of
self-Perfection (or Of Perfection Of the conditional self)
Is Utterly Misplaced. Perfection Is Not A Quality or Sign Of
what is conditional (and, Therefore, Necessarily limited, or
inherently imperfect). That Which Is (Inherently) Perfect Is
That Which Inherently Transcends the imperfect, the limited,
and the conditional. The Way Of The Heart Is Not the path Of self-Negation (or
Of Negation Of the conditional self). Therefore, Neither Is
It The Pursuit Of Perfect physical, emotional, mental,
moral, psychic, or Cosmic self-Purification (or Of Perfect
Purification Of the conditional self). All Ideas (or Ideals)
Of Perfect self-Purification (or Of Perfect Purification Of
the conditional self) Are conventions of egoity, and The
Pursuit Of Perfect self-Purification (or Of Perfect
Purification Of the conditional self) Is, Like The Pursuit
Of selfPerfection (or Of Perfection Of the conditional self)
In General, The Epitome Of egoic Seeking, Based On a
Misplaced or egoic conception Of What Is Perfect. The Way Of The Heart Is (Most Simply) The Progressive
(and Direct) Practice Of self-Transcendence.
