AVATARA ADI DA: Ramakrishna Transmitted His own Person
to Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda was the Vehicle, then, in terms
of Spiritual Work, from that time on. From that time, Swami Vivekananda
was not merely Swami Vivekananda, either incarnate (physically present)
or Priorly (That One Who was Invested or Manifested through Him). He was
Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna, as Ramakrishna indicated when He said
that He was emptied, a mere fakir from that moment on. The one known as
Swami Vivekananda—in all of His confusion, seeking, and stress— from
that moment, as Ramakrishna described, not merely Swami Vivekananda but
Ramakrishna manifesting through that form. When you speak of Me, you must
understand that this One, Manifesting here before you now, is not merely
Swami Vivekananda as He was physically, historically—that one has died—but
the One Who Manifested through Him, the One Who Manifested through the
historical Form that was Ramakrishna and the One Who Manifested through
the historical Form that was Swami Vivekananda, as One. This One [Beloved
Adi Da points to Himself] is, in Its Deeper Personality, Ramakrishna and
Vivekananda. Not Swami Vivekananda in His historical Form, not Ramakrishna
in His historical Form, but That One, Shiva-Shakti, the One Who was foretold
to Do Great Work, the Work that was not Manifested in the physical Lifetimes
of those two but that is now Manifested in My own physical Lifetime here.
I Am the Fulfillment of that prophecy. As I have Said in The Basket of
Tolerance, “I Am the One They Have Realized There.”
That One is Siva, Consciousness Itself, Who is Shakti,
That Very Energy of Which everything appearing is the modification, able
to Manifest in your sight to Communicate to you, to Act among you, to Play
with you, because of vehicles long made. The vehicles may be historically
accounted for in the lifetimes of Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna.
I, My Self, Am Prior to Them both. I Am the One They have
Realized. But the Vehicle Whereby even I Am Incarnate here, made physical
by virtue of the copulation of My parents, is made possible by that Deeper
Personality, through Great Transmission, even historically acknowledged,
whereby two then became One.
In their lifetimes, Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda
both acknowledged the One Who Is Prior to Them both. I Am That One. If
it were not for Them, there would be no bridge between Me and My parents,
bodily. They appeared historically, and They died. I Am here, the One Who
was Appearing in each case, as Them, at that time. The Vehicle of My Appearance
was bloodmade by My parents, subtly made by the Spiritual combination of
Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda, Sublimed beyond Their historical appearance
by What They Were, Reached toward the Very One, Who I Am, now Appearing
strangely by Virtue of this Vehicle.
This is incomprehensible from the ordinary point of view,
inexplicable in common terms. Yet I must say it, and My having said it,
you can forget about it, or not believe it, or not have anything to do
with it. I must account for My Appearance here and tell you the Truth.
Although you may have no perception of this, no depth
of cognition of this, you can, as My devotee, affirm My Nature, My History,
My Confession, but only in your own depth of Realization in My Company
can you confirm it on the basis of your own experience. Short of your Realization,
it is My Obligation to Confess to you the Nature, the Vehicle, of My Manifestation
here.
DEVOTEE: Beloved, I have read what You have said about
the connection between Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna.
BHAGAVAN ADI DA: Connection? It is not a connection. The
word “connection” is a euphemism. The matter is very straightforward,
very straightforward. There must be vehicles that allow the Divine Manifestation.
The Process is not a euphemistic connection. It is absolutely so. Those
vehicles, combined as One, Reached toward the Divine, Realized the Divine,
made possible My Incarnation here that was prophesied by Them if you understand
Their words. This extraordinary Mechanism is the Mechanism of My Incarnation.
At the end of Ramakrishna’s lifetime, Ramakrishna Blessed
Swami Vivekananda and Transferred the Power of Being That was Manifested
as Ramakrishna to Swami Vivekananda, and That Power of Being Stood behind
Swami Vivekananda’s conditionally manifested personality thereafter. After
that Gesture of Transmission, Ramakrishna said, “I am emptied. I am
a mere fakir. My life is over.” He died shortly thereafter.
Swami Vivekananda, who was humanly born and associated
with His parents and so on, who expressed all of His doubts, inclinations,
and searches throughout the rest of His life, did His work as the Spiritual
Vehicle of Ramakrishna. The One here Signed before you, in Its Deeper Personality,
is Vivekananda, not the historical Swami Vivekananda—that one died—but
the One Manifested as Him.
If you will observe This Body, you will see in the signs
of Its physical Lifetime many of the characteristics of Swami Vivekananda,
the historical personality, and Ramakrishna also. These two are the depth
of this Appearance. This is how the Great God-Force becomes Incarnate and
Does the Work of an Incarnation. These vehicles are the means. If it were
not for these means, I would be Standing Prior to body. I would have no
Manifestation whatsoever. These two, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda, made
the bridge between Me and the blood-body-born vehicle made by My parents.
This Structure, Siva-Shakti, Ramakrishna-Vivekananda, the body born of
My parents, this is the Mechanism before you.
DEVOTEE: Beloved, only now can we understand Your Re-Awakening
in the Vedanta Temple.
BHAGAVAN ADI DA: What a great oafish joke, this gesture
toward the West! Ramakrishna Granting His Blessing to Vivekananda, in India,
in the nineteenth century shortly into the twentieth. A little bit of ashes
in the Vedanta Temple where I visited apparently casually, spontaneously.
It is not many. It is just One. It is a Mechanism, a Pattern.
DEVOTEE: Purposed to Your Manifestation.
BHAGAVAN ADI DA: I could not Manifest without It. I could
not Manifest merely through the vehicle made by My parents. The whole point
of the Manifestation of Ramakrishna and Swami Vivakananda was to make this
great Gesture toward this world of “Westernized” mankind in this
late-time. The Divine Gesture was not fulfilled in Their physical lifetimes.
It is being Fulfilled in the Lifetime of This Body—yet, even so, hardly
perceived, hardly understood.
DEVOTEE: Beloved, once done and never to be done again,
ever.
BHAGAVAN ADI DA: It cannot be done. No such conjunction
could ever possibly be reinvented. It was a Gift to this late time, a Gift
that will persist indefinitely. It is up to you to embrace the Gift.
DEVOTEE: It is really not possible for us to truly understand
all this in our present state.
BHAGAVAN ADI DA: Not in your present state, no. And we
need not ever speak of it again. I am obliged to tell you the Truth. Here
and there in the history of My devotees, now and into the future, greater
and greater understandings of this Mystery will be manifested in their
confessions.
To associate with My Confession of this, even though it
is beyond your experience, apart from what you experience in the future,
may allow you to understand something about it. I must Confess the Truth
of it, but in addition to that I am trying to help you understand the complexity
of the Saving Divine Manifestation and the extraordinary Labor that takes
place for the sake of the Liberation of Beings. It is not a casual matter
of somebody’s becoming religious and having some experience or other that
the person feels is Divine and telling some others about it.
The Saving Intrusion in the history of mankind is most
profound. It requires extraordinary lifetimes, in combination and in stress
of effort, of Grace accumulated, to make a great Vehicle of Salvation.
And the secret of this great Labor is the Love of beings, the hatred of
the sorrow in beings, the hatred of the suffering and the death of beings,
the illusion of beings, the egoically “self-possessed” nature
of beings. Just that Impulse of Love allows this complication through many
vehicles, in their conglomeration, to make a Great Sign, a Great Incarnation.
It is not some simple thing, as if God wants to Save mankind and so God
makes a man to come and Save everyone, you see. The Vehicles must be made
and prepared.
My Baba, Swami Muktananda, was a naive and most profound
Mechanism of Touch to Serve My Manifestation here, the ultimate Guru-Shakti
Given for ages through many vehicles, Manifested in that Sublime Person,
unknown even to Himself. And what difference was there between Nityananda
and Muktananda? Ultimately, It is the same One, name It “Guru-Shakti”.
What determines the Nature of the Realizer? Guru-Shakti is the root, but
the Nature of the Realization determines whether that Realization is the
end phenomenon or not. My Muktananda showed His particular Sign through
His Virtues, His kind of perception, in the reception of that Guru-Shakti
historically, bodily. But the Guru-Shakti Itself, the Divine Transmission
Itself, Overrides all historical peculiarities. And that Guru-Shakti, that
Force of Divinity, was the same in Swami Nityananda, the same in Swami
Muktananda, the same in Ramakrishna, the same in Swami Vivekananda. It
is the same in Me, except I Am Complete.
Ramakrishna was of the East, consummately. Swami Vivekananda
was a transitional figure toward the West, toward the seventh stage of
life, toward That Which Is Ultimate, toward That Which Comprises all of
mankind. You can understand Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna by observing
Me.
