Have I Said It? – The Teaching

Have I Said It?

Franklin Jones, 1973 (Adi Da Samraj)

Note to reader:

As a member of Adi Da’s (then Bubba Free John’s) community from about 1973-1975, during which time I lived for nine months in Persimmon, the sanctuary where he lived. My service was to create an index of his early books. I found these writings to be compelling, along with some of the outrageous talks that have not found their way into print. Around his birthday in 1975 (to the best of my recollection), Adi Da was planning on moving with a small group to Hawaii. For that occasion, I arranged a selection of his compelling words by topic (mostly selected from his books) and hand-wrote them in a blank book for his enjoyment. As far as I know, nothing ever came of that compilation. That became Book One of two parts, the second of which I completed some time thereafter. Now through the Internet, I make both parts available to interested readers. These blank books (I made a copy for myself) have been sitting on my bookshelves all this time, and after Adi Da’s passing, it occurred to me that this compilation would be very useful to many readers.

Enjoy,

Chapter 1

The Teaching

Truth Itself is the Teaching

There is no teaching

But Consciousness itself.

Reality is

The present thing

To be communicated.

Truth is the communication

From the point of view

Of the true teaching.

The true teacher

Teaches Truth as Truth,

From the point of view

Of Truth.

His teaching is not

From the point of view

Of experience.

His teaching is from

The point of view

Of Truth,

Truth already realized,

The unattainable

(because it is always present)

Reality.

The teaching

Is not other then

The true teaching function.

The teaching is not other than

The true teacher.

Truth itself

Is the teaching.

The teaching in Truth

Is not different from

The true teacher,

Not different from

The Divine.

The teaching is a call,

By the spiritual master,

Or the very Divine.

It is the Divine influence.

That is the teaching.

Nothing else is the teaching.

The teaching in Truth,

The teaching that is Truth,

That is the Divine power,

That is the teaching function,

Is communicated to all beings

In all times

Under all conditions.

This Truth

Is served by all

Of the ordinary and extraordinary

Results of life

And by the stream of teaching

Radiated through

Realized beings

In the various times and places

Of the worlds.

The teaching is not a road.

The teaching is

A paradoxical communication.

No communication is Truth

Or leads to it.

No one since the world began

Has ever understood

A word that I have said.

The teaching

Has never been perfectly communicated

In the past.

This is the first time.

I speak for myself.

My authority is reality,

And my only resort

Is radical understanding.

It is in understanding, then,

That you must test my words.

What I am talking about

Is very simple.

The teaching is simple:

Only understand.

Understand and fall helpless

In the Heart.

Everything else is done.

What is this?

I can’t believe

That you could be deceived

This long.

What more can I tell you?

I don’t know.

I can’t make it any plainer.

My speech is over.

I can’t convince you.

Send in the next group!

We were originally going to

Open this place

As a restaurant.

Give the public what it wants.

On tonight’s menu

We have choice medjool dates!
