Why is Adi Da’s Teaching Confusing?

A Beezone Study

Why is Adi Da’s teaching confusing or maybe I should put it this way, why is Adi Da’s teaching a Paradox.  If I say it this way then it’s not confusing only contradictory in the logical sense.  I would like to give an example of this.

In the Aletheon, Adi Da’s final instructions (in summary form) he writes:

The only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam Is (in Its Fullness) the Way of Always Present Real-God-Realization through ego-transcending Real-God-Communion.

In the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam, attention to the Non-conditional Reality is not strategically maximized—but, rather, attention to the Non-conditional Reality is made ego-transcending and (altogether) right, and, thus, allowed to be the natural (but right-life-disciplined, and never ego-binding) context of conditional existence.

Therefore, if (in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam) Real God-Communion is to be constant (and not merely frequent), the Alpha strategy of dissociative introversion (or of minimizing attention to conditional reality and maximizing attention to Non-conditional Reality) is not (as an exclusive effort) workable.

Instead, all attention to conditional reality must be directly converted into ego-transcending participation in the Non-conditional Reality. Similarly, in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam, the Omega strategy of egoic (or separate and separative) extroversion (or of minimizing attention to Non-conditional Reality and maximizing attention to conditional reality) is (as an exclusive effort) equally unworkable, since any and all involvement with conditional reality must be ego transcending and Real-God-Realizing, even though involvement with conditional reality is, in principle, to be naturally embraced—without prejudice, without illusion, and without fundamental disinclination.

Now you can see that his writing style in itself is difficult to read, much less easily understandable (comprehendable).  So, to that point I will take this section of his writing and ‘break it down’ (a sin in many ways!) to demonstrate how his seemingly contradictory structure is fundamentally paradoxical and can only be “understood’ from a ‘realized’ or ‘transcendental’ point of view.

Below I’ve changed some of the sentences, removed the parentheticals and hopefully allowed the left-brain easier access to this ‘point of view’.

Here is the reworked section above:

The Reality-Way of Adidam Is the Way of Always Present Real-God-Realization through ego-transcending Real-God-Communion.

In the Reality-Way of Adidam, attention to the Non-conditional Reality is not strategically maximized

In the Reality-Way of Adidam attention to the Non-conditional Reality is made ego-transcending and right, and, thus, allowed to be the natural context of conditional existence.

If in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam Real God-Communion is to be constant, the Alpha strategy of dissociative introversion is not workable.

Instead, all attention to conditional reality must be directly converted into ego-transcending participation in the Non-conditional Reality.

Similarly, in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam, the Omega strategy of egoic extroversion is equally unworkable, since any and all involvement with conditional reality must be ego transcending and Real-God-Realizing…

Even though involvement with conditional reality is, in principle, to be naturally embraced—without prejudice, without illusion, and without fundamental disinclination.

Hopefully I’ve made is a bit more ‘understandable’ but obviously many ‘contractions’ or ‘paradoxes’ remain.  In that light the next section is designed to help by making a commentary on each ‘point’.

Here is the section again with commentary:

The Reality-Way of Adidam Is the Way of Always Present Real-God-Realization through ego-transcending Real-God-Communion.

THE WAY IS CONSTANT – MOMENT TO MOMENT – EGO-TRANSCENDING COMMUNION

In the Reality-Way of Adidam, attention to the Non-conditional Reality is not strategically maximized.

‘IN’ THE WAY  ATTENTION TO COMMUNION IS NOT MANIPULATED EGOICALLY.

In the Reality-Way of Adidam attention to the Non-conditional Reality is made ego-transcending and right, and, thus, allowed to be the natural context of conditional existence.

‘IN’ THE WAY ATTENTION TO COMMUNION IS ‘MADE’ EGOLESS AND ‘NATURAL’.

ONE CAN SEE HERE THAT THIS PART IS VERY CONFUSING FROM THE LOGICAL POINT OF VIEW.  WHY? BECAUSE ‘HOW CAN ATTENTION, WHICH IS NOT TO BE ‘ADDRESSED’ (TRANSCENDED) BE MADE TO BE ‘EGO TRANSCENDING’.  THAT IS LIKE SAYING TO PULL ONE’S SELF UP BY PULLING ON YOUR BOOTSTRAPS.  OBVIOUSLY, HE’S NOT USING ANY ‘EFFORT’ IN THE TRANSCENDENCE PROCESS BUT HE IS STATING THAT SOME KIND OF ‘RIGHT LIFE’ EFFORT IT TO BE MADE.

SO NOW, THE QUESTION OF ‘RIGHT LIFE’ EFFORT COMES INTO VIEW.   AND THIS ONE REASON WHY ONE CAN’T READ ADI DA AND EXPECT AN CLEAR ANSWER OR CONCEPTION TO HIS TEACHING.  HIS WRITING REQUIRES ONE TO UNDERSTAND IT FROM A ‘TRANSCENDENTAL’ POINT OF VIEW NOT A LOGICAL/ANALITICAL ONE.  ONE CAN GET SOME ‘SENSE’ OF HIS TEACHING, CLEARLY, BUT NOT IN THE ‘NORMAL’ CONCRETE, CLEARLY EXPLAINABLE WAY.  ADI DA’S TEACHING IS PARADOXICAL AND ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER AND THEN ANOTHER OR LEAVE ONE ‘HANGING’ IN MID AIR WITH A STATEMENT THAT IS JUST THAT, A STATEMENT.

If in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam, God-Communion is to be constant, the Alpha strategy of dissociative introversion is not workable.

‘IN’ THE WAY TRANSCENDENCE IS NOT AN INWARD PROCESS, BUT NOT EXCLUDED FROM IT.

Instead, all attention to conditional reality must be directly converted into ego-transcending participation in the Non-conditional Reality.

‘IN’ THE WAY  ALL ATTENTION, EVERY MOMENT OF IT, MUST BE EGO-TRANSCENDED AND PARTICPATING IN THE WORLD.

THE WORLD IS NOT TO BE AVOIDED OR MANIPULATED BUT TRANSCENDED.  NOW HOW THAT IS REQUIRES ON TO ‘UNDERSTAND’ IN A MANNER THAT IS NOT ‘EXPLAINED’ IN THIS OR ANY ONE SECTION OF ADI DA’S WRITING.

Similarly, in the only-by-Me Revealed and Given Reality-Way of Adidam, the Omega strategy of egoic extroversion is equally unworkable, since any and all involvement with conditional reality must be ego transcending and Real-God-Realizing…

SAME AS ABOVE.  OUTWARD ATTENTION MUST NOT BE MANIPULATED IN ANY STATEGIC MANNER.

Even though involvement with conditional reality is, in principle, to be naturally embraced—without prejudice, without illusion, and without fundamental disinclination.

ATTENTION MUST BE USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CONDITIONAL WORLD (SELF/OTHER/WORLD) IN A NATURAL MANNER CLEARLY, DIRECTLY AND WITHOUT HESITATION.

You can see here that Adi Da’s teaching instruction requires a reading that is ‘involved’.  It is addressing an ‘intuition’ or another level of the mind beyond (but not excluding) the left and right hemispheres.  He’s addressing ‘Reality’, the ‘Heart’, the ‘Truth’ and ‘Who He Is’.  His Word is not other than ‘HIM’, AS HE IS.

Stay with His Word and you stay with HIM. This is the only way I know of ‘understanding’ Adi Da.
